Strawberries have arrived in Eastern Ontario. Many area farms are opening this week for pick-your-own and pre-picked berries. There is nothing like the fresh sweet taste of a just picked strawberry. Come out to the farm, enjoy the sunshine and add local strawberries to your menu.
Berry good strawberry ideas include:
- Whole: Grill them, freeze them and use as ice cubes.
- Quartered: Add to your salad, smoothie or summer Sangria.
- Blended: Make ice pops, strawberry vinaigrette, add to your lemonade or make strawberry jam.
You can store strawberries in the refrigerator with hulls intact for three to six days. You can also freeze berries to enjoy the fresh taste of summer all year round.
