Local strawberries are in season

Fresh delicious Eastern Ontario strawberries are ready. Thanks to the warm spring and recent rainfall, strawberries are ready for harvest earlier than normal. People often think to go strawberry picking at a local farm when school is out, but this year the June strawberries are here now.

The traditional June bearing strawberry varieties typically last 3-4 weeks, but now many area farmers extend the season until October with day neutral varieties. These varieties can be harvested all summer and in the early fall.

Visit Ottawa area berry farms and look for our berries at farmers markets, roadside stands, and at your local grocery store. This week, most Eastern Ontario Berry Grower Association farms will be in full production.

Celebrate the arrival of summer with the first fruit of the season—strawberries.
